About The Dude
I was literally on the ultimate dude trip when I found out that I was going to be a father. I had just landed in a rickety prop plane on a dirt runway on an island in the Arctic Ocean off the north slope of Alaska. I picked up the satellite phone to call my wife and let her know we had survived the most aggressive part of the trip and she told me that she thought she should take the test. I begged her to wait until I returned, but we both knew in the core of our beings that she was pregnant. Six days later, we sat in our bedroom waiting for the test to share the results and I found myself mindlessly repeating "holy crap, holy crap, holy crap" as it came up positive.
Dude to Dad started as a genuine cry for help. I woke up the day after Thanksgiving (2008) and realized that in just 100 days I would be a dad. While I had known for months that I was going to be a father and though Mrs. Dude had seen many visible signs of motherhood, I was still firmly rooted in my dudehood. With nowhere else to turn, I went to the internet on December 2nd. Within 48 hours, I had received helpful advice from all over the country. By the end of the first week, over 1,000 people had stopped by, sent emails or left a comment on one of the videos. It was clear that I wasn’t the only freaked out father-to-be and I wasn’t in this alone. It was also clear that I needed a stronger presence to share my story and collect advice.
Since December 2008, our community had grown to over 13,000 follower on Twitter, 300 on Facebook, thousands that watch each of our video and countless friends around the world.
